About the Venture Calc™ Logo
|
|
Venture Calc's three hexagons represent Planning, Execution, and Results... the
key phases of any project.
|
|
Your project will include these stages in some form. For example, depending on the size of the
initiative, your need may be for a full business plan with pro forma financials, or it may be a
basic product outline or business process flow sketched on paper. Either way, Planning comes before
Execution to establish an environment conducive to a successful Result.
|
|
|
Planning: An organized program of study and analysis
designed to address specific business needs and customer benefits. We leverage the six sides of the
first hexagon to build an effective and focused plan. The six sides of the planning hexagon signify:
|
| |
Vision: The ability to anticipate and articulate what
your business will one day become for you, your stockholders, and employees. It also represents
what you can do for your customers
|
| |
Strategy: The combination of art and skill that takes
a business plan from paper and describes the action required to achieve the established vision
|
| |
Knowledge: The sum total of expertise, skill, and
experience that will set your business apart from the competition
|
| |
Culture: The behaviors, beliefs, and characteristics
with which you approach the marketplace and pursue success
|
| |
Customer Focus: The ability to approach the marketplace
and fully address the needs and desired results of those who will purchase the commodity or
service your business provides
|
| |
Desired Outcome: What your business achieves at the end
of a project or product introduction that benefits you and your stockholders
|
|
|
Execution: The second hexagon stands for the series of planned
actions that generate the desired business results. As identified by the plan, Venture Calc can
facilitate project execution, if desired by the client, or transition this activity to the client. The
six sides of the execution hexagon represent:
|
| |
Leadership: It is important to identify chain of command
and reporting structure
|
| |
People: Determine who will be involved in the activities
and whom their efforts will impact
|
| |
Roles/Responsibilities: What role will each of the players
perform, and what tasks will be required of those taking responsibility for each of the identified
roles?
|
| |
Incentives: How do we increase the chances of individuals’
meeting their responsibilities? This is the proactive side of motivation
|
| |
Accountability: Contributors must be held responsible for
their actions. This is the reactive side of motivation
|
| |
Tracking: This is the activity that keeps the project on
time and within scope and adjusts for negative outside influences
|
|
|
Results: The third hexagon represents the optimal outcomes and
benefits for your company and your customers derived from solid execution. The six sides of the results
hexagon describe:
|
| |
Outcome: This is the end of the project where you determine
if your objectives were achieved. Has the change in process or product you were seeking for your
company or your customers occurred?
|
| |
Measurement: Using the methods and tools defined during
the planning phase, this is the time to gather data for all of the desired outcomes and to identify
any measurement or metrics that must be tracked as you move forward
|
| |
Analysis: With the identified project metrics in hand,
this is the time to analyze the measured data to quantify results along a continuum between success
and failure
|
| |
Acknowledgement: To foster a business environment
committed to flexibility and growth it is critical to acknowledge the contributions of each
individual on the team. Call out the individual’s successes and the part they played in achieving
the project objectives
|
| |
Lessons Learned: Few business initiatives are flawless,
so take the time to identify what went well and what could have been accomplished better or faster.
It will put you that much further ahead at the beginning of the next project or process change
|
| |
Next Steps: Is there a follow-on phase? Are there other
processes that would benefit from a redesign or other significant change? Are there additional
products that could spin off from the ones successfully launched? Plan ahead now for your next
success
